Teenagers and Young Adults Program: Functional Living Skills (AFLS)

Building Independence, Confidence, and Life Skills with AFLS

🔹 Building Independence with the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS)

At ARN, we understand that the teenage and young adult years are a critical time for growth and independence. Using the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS), we design individualized programs with vocational trainings, that teach practical, real-world, independent living skills. Our goal is to prepare teens and young adults with autism and related needs to thrive in school, at home, in the community, and eventually in the workplace.

📌 This program is guided by evidence-based ABA strategies, delivered in a way that feels meaningful, motivating, and achievable.

✅Over 20 years of ABA experience in Hong Kong

✅A structured yet flexible framework tailored to each student’s needs

✅A strong balance of skill-building + real-life application

✅Parent and professional collaboration every step of the way

🔹 How We Teach

  • Our sessions combine structured teaching with natural environment learning:

    • 📹Video Modeling: Teens watch short clips of real scenarios (e.g., greeting a shop assistant) and then practice.
    • 🎲Role Play & Simulation: Practicing job interviews, making purchases, or handling daily challenges.
    • 📸Photo Schedules & Visual Supports: Step-by-step picture guides for cooking, using transport, or managing money.
    • 🤝Peer Interaction: We invite typically developing peers and group activities for natural social practice.
    • 🌈Community Outings: Hands-on practice in supermarkets, restaurants, parks, libraries, and public transport.
